However, modern education encourages students to have contact with others outside of the classroom, school, and now even the state. By having this exposure at a young age, we are likely to use social interaction tools in the future. In short, education flattens the earth and encourages more flattening in the future.

I disagree with your first statement. Other countries can access the same books and technology as Americans. All you have to do is look at where much of the technology is produced. Taiwan, Japan, China, Singapore... all these countries produce much of the technology that you are talking about so they naturally will have the same access to it that you and I do.
